After the appearance of the so-called "New City" (now the central part of the city), it was called "Old Vinnitsa", or "Old City". One of the oldest buildings and one of the landmark of the area is the Church of St. Nicholas, built in 1746.
During the Second World War, active hostilities were introduced in the suburban part. After the war, the area expanded significantly. In the 1960s, the old city bridge was built, as it is now. In 2011, a Vinnitsa light and sound fountain was built on the waterfront near the Roshen factory.
