Among the first to open a department of microsurgery.

On his initiative, in 1992 a department of family medicine was established at the university. In 1994, the first two-volume guide “Family Medicine” was published in Russia, for which the scientist and his co-authors were awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Scientific activity

The main direction of scientific research is tendon-muscle plastic surgery in traumatology and orthopedics; laid the foundations of experimental and clinical tenomyology. For a set of works in this direction and the introduction of new methods of treatment into practice, the scientist was awarded the RF State Prize in the field of science and technology for 1997. He justified and transplanted weak muscles in a state of deep paresis, which was previously considered prohibited. At the same time, he developed the theory of the upbringing and management of transplanted muscles, working out the correct posture and a new act of walking, taking into account the newly appeared opportunities. He developed and put into practice over 30 new operations in such areas as static and pulsed gymnastics, tonic tenomyoplasty, adhesions, myothenofasciosis, elastic automyocompression, closed osteomyothoracoplasty and other principles, including cadaveric muscle transplantation.

For the first time, he substantiated and introduced hyperbaric oxygenation into traumatology and orthopedics. Together with the engineers, he developed the multi-seat pressure chamber Volga-MT. Together with chemical scientists, he developed a new compound, called by the authors "artificial bone." This material is officially registered under the name “LITAR” and is used in traumatology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry and purulent surgery.
