Merey ( Kazakh. Merey , until 2007 - 50 years of the Kazakh SSR) is a village in the Karasai district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan . Included in the Umtyl rural district. The KATO code is 195255500 [1] . The village is located on the shore of the pond. The village has a secondary school named after Makarenko. There is a house of culture, a church, a mosque. In 1985, a monument to the participants of the Great Patriotic War was erected in the square near the House of Culture.

STORY
The urban-type settlement 50 years of the Kazakh SSR was founded in 1967 as a settlement for the workers of the newly formed KZEP enterprise (the Kazakh Zonal Poultry Plant). As in the times of the USSR, it is now a kind of cluster for the poultry industry. In the vicinity of the village there are 4 poultry farms. There is also a research institute of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Population
In 1999, the population of the village was 1,573 people (758 men and 815 women) [2] . According to the 2009 census , 1,540 people lived in the village (729 men and 811 women) [2] .
