Shamalgan ( kaz. Shamalkan , until 1995 - Chemolgan [1] ) - a station and settlement in the Karasai district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan . The administrative center of the Novoshamalgan rural district. Located about 20 km north of the center of Kaskelen . The KATO code is 195237100 [2] .

Infrastructure
In the village is the Shamalgan railway station of the Almaty branch of the Kazakhstan railways . There is an outpatient clinic, district hospital, school, gas station . Since 1998, an Orthodox church was opened in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God [3] .
Population
In 1999, the station's population was 8923 people (4281 men and 4642 women) [4] . According to the 2009 census , 15,163 people lived in the village (7,454 men and 7,709 women) [4] .
