Koktal [1] ( Kazakh. Koktal ) is a village in the Panfilovsky district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan . The administrative center of the Koktal rural district. It is located about 18 km west of the city of Zharkent , the administrative center of the district, at an altitude of 605 meters above sea level [2] . The KATO code is 195639100 [3] .

Etymology
Translated from the Kazakh language, the word koktal means " willow ."
History
The village of Golubevskaya was founded in 1872 on the site of the Borokhudzir picket, by 19 peasant families, immigrants from the Tobolsk province. Three years later, 50 families of Siberian Cossacks were settled here.
Named in honor of the astronomer and surveyor Alexander Fedorovich Golubev , who conducted geodetic work in these parts. In 1926 it was renamed the village of Koktal [4] .
In 1931-1956, Koktal was the center of the Oktyabrsky district .
Population
In 1999, the village population was 10,814 people (5328 men and 5486 women) [5] . According to the 2009 census , 10 360 people lived in the village (5148 men and 5212 women) [5]
