Transfiguration Cathedral (Khabarovsk)

Transfiguration Cathedral - Orthodox Cathedral in Khabarovsk , erected on the steep bank of the Amur in 2001 - 2004 . According to a number of sources, it is the third highest church in Russia after the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow and St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg .

The construction of the cathedral in Khabarovsk was blessed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II . The first stone in the foundation of the temple was laid in 2001. On October 16, 2003, Bishop Mark of Khabarovsk and Amur served a thanksgiving service at the end of construction. The five-domed golden-domed cathedral was built with donations from residents of the region, sponsorship funds of enterprises and organizations.

The height of the Transfiguration Cathedral is 83 meters ^[1] . For comparison - the height of the Radio House, located next to the temple, is slightly more than 40 meters. The temple was built by the architects Yuri Zhivetiev, Nikolai Prokudin and Evgeny Semenov. The frescoes inside the church (on the dome of the Savior the Almighty and the Apostles) were performed by a group of Moscow artists specially invited for this occasion to Bishop Mark of Khabarovsk and Khabarovsk in Khabarovsk. Transfiguration Cathedral is able to simultaneously receive three thousand parishioners. The Transfiguration Cathedral has two separate chapels , the main one, with the main entrance and the small one (lower church), located under the main one. Before the construction of the Transfiguration, the cathedral of the Khabarovsk diocese was the Nativity of Christ Cathedral .

The rector of the cathedral is Archpriest George Sivkov.
