Dimitar Ivanov Popov ( Bulgarian. Dimitar Ivanov Popov , October 13, 1894 , pp. Makotsevo (now Sofia region of Bulgaria ) - October 25 , 1975 , Sofia ) - prominent Bulgarian chemist, organist, teacher, professor (since 1929), full member Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (since 1961). Laureate of the Dimitrov Prize (1959).

Biography
He studied at the 1st Sofia Gymnasium. In 1920 he graduated from Sofia University . He completed an internship at the University of Nancy ( France ). Since 1926 he worked at Sofia University (since 1929 - professor).
Since 1948 - corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Full member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 1961.
In the years 1962-1972. Head of the Organic Synthesis section at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Since 1958. - Member of the German Chemical Society (GDR).
Since 1972, he has been an honorary member of the French Chemical Society, of which he has been a member since 1924.
Scientific activity
Popov's works are mainly devoted to the chemistry of organometallic and organophosphorus compounds and to the study of essential oils .
In 1931, he discovered the reaction of the interaction of the magnesium halide salt of phenylacetic acid with carbonyl-containing compounds ( Ivanov reaction ).
