DescriptionAll members of the order are freshwater small fish, up to 5–20 cm long. Endemics of North America , found only in the USA and Canada .
ClassificationThere are 3 families, 7 genera and 9 species in the order of percoptera [1] [2] :
- Percopsidae - Perkopsovye , or salmon . Monotypic family with 1 genus and 2 modern species. In the Eocene four more, now extinct genera were represented.
- Aphredoderidae - Afredoderovye , or piratokokunevye . Monotypic family with 1 genus and 1 species.
- Amblyopsidae - Amblyopes , or blind-eyed . In the family there are 5 genera and 6 species. Most species live in karst caves . Four species are blind.
