Merge attracted attention already at the junior career stage. In 2001, he won the Orange Bowl tournament for 16-year-olds. Won the 2003 Wimbledon singles juniors, as well as two pair Grand Slam tournaments - ( Wimbledon 2002 , -2003 ). Finalist of one junior Grand Slam singles tournament ( Australian Open 2003 ); finalist of two junior Grand Slam tournaments in doubles ( Australian Open 2002 , -2003 ); the finalist in the Orange Bowl doubles tournament (2002) and the semifinalist of a single junior grand slam singles tournament ( US Open 2003 ). The first successes in the tournaments of the series "futures" came to Merge in 2003. During this season, he won three doubles futures and reached the final for two singles. In July, he made his debut at the main ATP tour competitions, playing at the tournament in Kitzbuhel , where he defeated Robin Wieck in the first round and lost to Feliciano in the second round to Lopez . In September, he made his debut in the national team of Romania in the qualifying round of the Davis Cup . For the 2004 season, he won two single and four double futures and won the first two double tournaments from the Challenger series . In 2005 and 2006, Merge won three more single and five double futures. In May 2005, he reached the highest line for himself in the single ranking - 243rd place and focused on performances mainly in doubles. In 2007, he won the last single titles in his career on two futures. He won on three pair futures and two pair challengers. Three more Challengers in pairs Merge won in 2008, and also performed for the first time in the main adult competitions of the Grand Slam, playing at the French Open together with Horia Tekeu . Since 2013, progress has been made in the speeches of Merge. Since the beginning of the season, he increasingly performed at the main ATP competitions.
