Biography
Georgy Zagainov was born on September 21, 1922 in the village of Shuglyanur [K 1] . He graduated from elementary school in Nikulata [3] . In 1938, Zagainov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since April of that year - on the fronts of World War II. By September 1943, Lieutenant Georgy Zagainov commanded a sapper platoon of the 32nd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 12th Guards Rifle Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [4] .
On the night of September 28-29, 1943, Zagainov's platoon was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Glushets, Loyevsky District, Gomel Region, Belorussian SSR . Under massive German fire, he built bridges, rafts and other boats. The actions of the platoon greatly contributed to the success of the capture and retention of the bridgehead [4] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Lieutenant Georgy Zagainov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 2948 [4] .
After the war, Zagainov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1955, with the rank of captain, he was sacked. He lived in Chelyabinsk , worked as deputy chief of security at the Chelyabinsk Dairy Plant.
He died on March 16, 2000, was buried in the Assumption Cemetery of Chelyabinsk [4] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , World War 1 degree, two orders of World War 2 degree, a number of medals [4] .

- ↑ The village of Shuglyanur (Kosaryata), belonging to the Tozhsolinsky volost of the Yaran district [1] , subsequently was part of the Verkhoizhsky village council of the Salobelyak district , and since 1956 it was part of the Nikulyatsky village council of the Yaran district of the Kirov region ; abolished 12/26/2000 [2] .
