There were seven ministers in the government: police - Cauchon, home affairs - Beneses, navy - Truges, foreign affairs - Charles Delacroix, finance - Ramel, justice - Merlin and military - Petier. Cauchon, Petier, and Beneses stained themselves by going to the royalist camp. Truge was arrogant, unbridled and tried to do everything his own way. Delacroix could not cope with his duties. Only Ramel and Merlin, according to most members of the Directory, that is, Barras, Rebel and Lareveller, should remain in their places. The opposition, for its part, demanded a change of four ministers: Merlin, Ramel, Truge and Delacroix. Barras succumbed to her Truge and Delacroix, but also removed three more who were members of the Council of Five Hundred ... ”CHAPTER XVI. CITIZENS MEMBERS OF THE DIRECTORY
