Biography
Porfiry Zhuchkov was born in 1912 in the village of Voinovo (now - the Bolkhovsky district of the Oryol region ). After graduating from the Bolkhov Pedagogical College, he worked as a teacher, director of the school, and head of the topographic party in the village of Cheremkhovo, Ivanovo District, Amur Region . In May 1941, Zhuchkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since June of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Western , South-Western , 3rd , 4th Ukrainian, 1st Belorussian fronts. In August 1941 he was wounded. By April 1945, Senior Lieutenant Porfiry Zhuchkov was an agitator for the 986th Rifle Regiment ( 230th Rifle Division , 9th Rifle Corps , 5th Strike Army , 1st Belorussian Front ). Distinguished himself during the Berlin operation [1] .
On April 27, 1945, in the battles for Berlin, Zhuchkov led a demolition group that successfully blew up nine reinforced concrete barricades on Willstrasse . In that battle he died. He was buried north of Kostrzyn nad Odrou [1] .
Rewards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, for the “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Lieutenant Porfiry Zhuchkov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .
He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War 1 and 2 degrees, the medal "For Military Merit" [1] .
