Rotru III the Great ( fr. Rotrou III .; D. 6 or 8 May 1144 ) - Count of Persha from 1100/1101, Senor Bellema from 1126. The son of Geoffrey I de Mortagne and Beatrice de Rus.

Biography
Born no later than 1080.
Together with the Duke of Normandy Robert II participated in the First Crusade , including the siege of Antioch and Jerusalem (1099). He returned to Persh after the death of his father.
During the conflict between King Henry of England and the Duke of Normandy Robert Rotrou III, at first he supported the duke, then he sided with the king and in 1103 married his illegitimate daughter.
In 1111, he fought on the side of England with the king of France and his allies - Senor de Belle and Count of Anjou . He was captured, at this time the city of Mortagne was burned.
After his release, he went to Spain, fought on the side of his cousin Alfons I of Aragon until 1118.
After the death in 1135 of Henry of England, Rotre III first supported the new King Stephen in his struggle with Matilda - another pretender to the throne. However, in 1141 he organized a meeting of the Norman barons, at which they joined Matilda and her husband Geoffrey Plantagenet . With their support, Geoffrey of Anjou began the conquest of Normandy. During the siege of Rouen on May 6 or 8, 1144, Rotrou III was mortally wounded by a shot from a crossbow .
Family and offspring
Rotru was married three times. The name and origin of the first wife is unknown. Daughter:
- Beatrice is the wife of Renault IV, the lord de Chateau-Gonthier.
In 1103, Rotrou married Matilda (d. 11/25/1120), the illegitimate daughter of the English king Henry I from a lover named Edith (she owned land in Devon and outlived her daughter). As a dowry, she received land from Wiltshire from her father. She died with her brother Wilhelm , who was trying to save her, during the crash of the White Ship . She had two daughters in marriage:
- Philip is the wife of Earl of Man of Ely II .

Not later than 1126, Rotrou married for the third time - on Aviz, the daughter of Walter Salisbury . They had three sons:
- Rotru IV du Persh (d. July 27, 1191) - Count of Persh .
- Geoffrey (d. After 1154)
- Stephen (Etienne) (d. 1169) - Chancellor of the Kingdom of Sicily.
After the death of Rotru III, his widow married Robert I de Dreux (d. 1188), who was possibly the father of Stephen (Etienne).
