Restigouche River is a river in the northwest of New Brunswick , Canada .

The source is in the Appalachian Mountains . In the upper reaches it flows in a southeast direction, then turns to the northeast, at Campbellton it spills and forms a wide estuary 25 kilometers long, flows into the Chaler Bay near the city of Dalhousie. In the lower reaches forms the border between the provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec . In 1998, the upper part of the 55 km long river was included in Canada's List of Protected Rivers [1] .
The name of the river comes from the Mikmak word Listuguj (which means "Five Fingers").
In 1760, at the mouth of the river, the Battle of Restigush between the fleets of England and France took place , the final naval battle of the Seven Years War , which ended with the victory of the British. As a result of the defeat in the Seven Years' War, France lost Canada.
The river is famous for its fishing on Atlantic salmon . Many famous people from around the world have fished here, including Edward VIII , Wallis Simpson , Hubert Humphrey , Lord Beaverbrook , Bing Crosby , Louis Laurent , Maurice Richard , Norman Schwarzkopf , George W. Bush and Brian Mulroney .
