The Berriasian Stage ( Berrias ) is the lower layer of the lower part of the Cretaceous system . Overlapped by the Valanginian tier. It covers the period from 145.0 million years ago to 139.8 million years ago [1] .
Highlighted by the French geologist Henri Kokan in 1876 . It got its name from the village of Berrias in the central part of France .
In a typical location, it is composed of limestones, above with interlayers of marls. It is divided into two zones: Beriasella grandis and Beriasella bossieri .
