Story
The world of the future. Human civilization collapsed and reborn again. Now the world has become completely different. Cities buried in verdure; air cars gliding through the air. And the most interesting thing is that almost all people are dizzyingly beautiful , except for one “beauty” Talley Youngblood. This is not a new race of people with a genetic mutation, this is not an optical illusion, it is just an operation of "beauty . " Are you already sixteen ? Then welcome to the world of absolutely beautiful people!
But what about those who are too young for the operation? Talley Youngblood survives the last months in the guise of a "freak." She makes risky sorties from the reservation , does dangerous tricks, makes new friends, but she does not even suspect what all this will turn out for her. She will have to go a long and dangerous path, get into the mysterious Smoke, go against her family and the whole world. And finally, show people the real beauty.
Characters
- Talley Youngblood is a fifteen-year-old girl who lives on a reservation for “freaks”, is looking forward to sixteen years to undergo a “beauty” operation and relocate to New Beauty, but later becomes disappointed in this. Goes to Smoke on the orders of Dr. Cable. In love with David.
- Paris is a friend of Talley, a little older than her, so by the beginning of the story he had already become “handsome”.
- Shay , another resident of the reservation, the same age as Telly, who later became her friend, was categorically against the operation of "beauty", so she fled to Smoke before her sixteenth birthday. She was in love with David.
- Dr. Cable is a member of the Shay Search Emergency Commission.
- Saul and Ellie are Talley's parents.
- David is a native of Smoke. In love with Talley.
- Ez and Maddy are David's parents, doctors. Side effects of the operation were discovered (brain damage, etc.), so even before David was born, they fled and founded Smoke.
- Croy - another smoke man, fled to Smoke before the sixteenth birthday, from the very beginning he suspected Talley of espionage.

The Ugly and Beauty books have become the best books in the Young Adults segment and the bestselling books of The New York Times and Amazon.com . The rights to the film adaptation of the books were acquired by the 20th Century Fox film company [1] .
