Origin

Jean I belonged to the Alanson branch of Valois. He was the third (youngest) son of Pierre II the Good ( 1340–1404 ), Count Alençon and de Persch ( 1367–1404 ), and Mary (d. 1425 ), Viscountess de Beaumont-Maine, daughter of Guillaume de Chameil, Señora de 'Antenaz.

Biography

In September 1404, after the death of his father Pierre the Good, 19-year-old Jean inherited the counties of Alençon and Perche.

Count Jean Alencon was on the side of the Armagnacs . He fought against the Bourguignons , devastated Vermandois . In 1411 captured the city of Saint-Denis and Saint-Cloud . In 1414, Compiegne , Noyon, and Soissons , besieged Arras . He tried, nevertheless, to reconcile both warring parties. In 1414, Count Jean of Alençon was granted to be duke and became a peer of France .

On October 25, 1415, the Duke Jean of Alençon commanded the second division of the French army in a battle with the British at Aziencourt . Killed in this battle.

Family and children

On July 20, 1397, Jean Alensson, at Château d'Hermines, married Marie of Breton ( March 14, 1391 - January 4, 1447 ), Lady de La Hersch, daughter of Jean V the Brave ( 1340 - 1399 ), Duke of Brittany ( 1345 - 1399 ), and Jeanne d'Evreux ( 1370-1437 ). Children:
