Biography

Pyotr Zhukov was born on January 7, 1914 in the village of Tranquil (now - Otradnensky district of the Krasnodar Territory ). Received incomplete secondary education. In 1936, Zhukov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He participated in the liberation of the cities of the Krasnodar Territory, including Novorossiysk , Anapa , Taman . By November 1943, Captain Pyotr Zhukov commanded a battalion of the 1339th rifle regiment of the 318th Mountain Rifle Division of the 18th Army of the North Caucasus Front . Distinguished during the Kerch-Eltigen operation [1] .

The Zhukov battalion first landed on the coast of the Kerch Peninsula in the area of ​​the village of Eltigen (now - Geroevskoe within the precincts of Kerch ). More than six days under massive enemy artillery and mortar fire and air raids he fought with German troops. Since, due to the storm, reinforcements and supplies could not reach the shore for a long time, the groups of soldiers fought off weapons and ammunition from the enemy. A group of fighters led by Zhukov successfully captured the enemy’s mortar battery and, deploying the guns, opened fire on him. The battalion managed to break through the enemy defenses and go two kilometers forward [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 17, 1943, for “courage, bravery and heroism shown in the struggle against the German invaders”, Captain Peter Zhukov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2185 [ 1] .

After the war, Zhukov was transferred to the reserve. He returned to his homeland, worked in agriculture. He died on June 3, 1967 [1] .

He was also awarded the orders of Alexander Nevsky and World War 2 nd degree, a number of medals [1] . Resident of the village Temirgoevskoy since 1944.
