Biography
Jacques Teats was born in 1930 in Ukkel . He studied at the Free University of Brussels , in 1950 he defended his dissertation on the topic "Généralisation des groupes projectifs basés sur la notion de transitivité".
In 1956-1964, Jacques Teats taught at the Free University of Brussels (where in 1962 he became a professor), in 1964-1974 - at the University of Bonn . In 1973, the College de France invited him to head the department of group theory. Jacques Tits agreed and, since by law at that time only French citizens could teach there, he accepted French citizenship in 1974. Since 1974, he worked at the College de France, until in 2000 he left the post due to his advanced age .
