Nikolai Alekseevich Firsov ( October 27 [ November 8 ] 1831 , Ryazan Province - April 24 [ May 6 ] 1896 , Kazan ) - Professor of Russian History, Teacher, Historian, Ethnographer, Honored Professor of Kazan University , a prominent representative of the democratic trend in Russian historiography, author a number of works devoted to the colonization of the Volga region and the Ural region.

Biography
Upon completion of the course at the Main Pedagogical Institute , in 1855, he was appointed senior history teacher at the Perm gymnasium . In the autumn of 1859 he was seconded to Kazan University and moved in 1860 as a supernumerary teacher to the 1st Kazan Gymnasium .
In 1861 he was entrusted with the temporary teaching of Russian history at the University of Kazan. In November 1862, he expressed a desire to finally move to the department of Russian history, but received on April 20, 1863, the refusal and permission to teach Russian history until the acquisition of a master's degree. In the same year, on August 1, he was appointed a teacher of literature in the 2nd Kazan Gymnasium , but on August 27, 1864 he was again transferred to the 1st gymnasium, leaving the university.
He was approved as a master's degree on April 3, 1867, and was elected on April 10, and on April 27, approved as an assistant professor in the department of Russian history at Kazan University. Since December 19, 1869 - Doctor of Russian History, and then an extraordinary and ordinary professor .
He was dean of the Faculty of History and Philology from May 24, 1871 to May 16, 1872 ; from September 9, 1878 to May 30, 1881 . From May 16, 1872 to May 26, 1875, he was vice-rector of the university; Re-elected as Vice-Rector on May 30, 1881, and held this position until its abolition, with the introduction of the 1884 university statute .
Since September 29, 1886 - Professor Emeritus . He died in the service of April 24 ( May 6 ) 1896 .
