NBA season 1976/77 - became the 31st season of the National Basketball Association . The champion was the Portland Trail Blazers . In the final, the Blazers defeated the Philadelphia 76 team in six games.

In the 1976 NBA draft, number one point guard Houston Rockets was chosen by point guard John Lucas of the University of Maryland College Park . Adrian Dantley was chosen under the 6th number in that draft, Robert Parish was selected under the 8th, Alex English under the 23rd, and Dennis Johnson under the 29th.

This season, the NBA and ABA merged, resulting in four clubs joining the NBA: New York Nets , Denver Nuggets , Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs ^{[K 1]} . Due to the increase in the number of teams in the playoffs, 12 clubs began to appear, and not 10, as was the case last year.
