Content
Short Biography
Born into an aristocratic family, educated at a Dutch school and madrassah. In 1931 he wrote the first song "Oh, Sarina." The heyday of creativity and recognition falls on the period after the declaration of independence of Indonesia (1945). He owns more than 200 songs that have become national classics, including in the "kronchong" style.
The most famous of them is “Consolation of the island of palm trees” ( indon. Rayuan Pulau Kelapa ) (1944), which has become Indonesia's hallmark worldwide and to which Indonesian radio and television broadcast their broadcasts [1] , as well as the revolutionary “Hello, Hello, Bandung” ( indon. Halo, halo Bandung ) (1946) [2] . He also owns the processing of the famous Russian song “ Black Eyes ” with the text in the Sundanese language (“Panon Hideung”).
The song “Consolation of the island of palm trees” (edited by V. Geviksman , Russian text by V. Korchagin) entitled “Warm seas washed” or “Country native Indonesia” was very popular in the Soviet Union performed by Maya Golovnya and was included in many songbooks of that time [ 3] . The song also became the driving force behind the plot of Andrei Yevplanov’s short story “Indonesia” [4] . The leitmotif of the song “Indonesia - My Love” was used by Julius Kim in his song “On the anniversary of D. A. Sukharev.”
He was buried in the Jakarta cemetery Karet Bivak.
Family
He was married to the famous Sundan singer Eulis Zurayda, who became famous including the performance of the Sundan version of the song “ Black Eyes ”. Daughter of Rahmi Asiah.
