Biography
Alexander Zhukov was born in 1915 in the village of Alekseevskoye (now Rybinsk district of the Yaroslavl region ). He received incomplete secondary education, graduated from the courses of accountants, and then worked as an accountant at the Semennikovsky village council. In 1937, Zhukov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war . Since October 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. Repeatedly threw himself into the German rear for special missions. He was wounded three times in battles. In 1942, Zhukov graduated from courses of mortar company commanders and courses "Shot". By July 1943, the Guard Captain Alexander Zhukov commanded a battalion of the 9th Guards Airborne Regiment of the 4th Guards Airborne Division of the 13th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the Battle of Kursk [1] .
July 9-10, 1943 Zhukov with his battalion participated in the defense of the Ponyri station in the Kursk region . The enemy attacked with forces of 50 tanks and two infantry battalions, he managed to capture the northwestern outskirts of the station and begin to advance towards its center. Zhukov's battalion took up defense in the southern part of the station. In the evening of July 9, Zhukov raised his fighters to the attack, he went ahead. German units were driven back from the station and suffered heavy losses. In battle, Zhukov was wounded in the arm, but did not leave the system. On the night of the same day, the enemy launched another counterattack, but the battalion repulsed it too, destroying 2 German tanks. When, at dawn, German aviation struck the positions of the battalion, Zhukov’s fighters managed to bring down 2 enemy aircraft. On July 10, Zhukov was seriously injured in the battle, but continued to fight. Once surrounded by a group of fighters, Zhukov continued to fight until he died. He was buried in the village of Ponyry [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for "heroism, personal fearlessness, skillful leadership of the unit in battle" of the guard, Captain Alexander Zhukov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .
