Assessment of creativity
Comments on S. Sokurov's literary activity appeared almost immediately after the first publications in the Izvestia newspaper in 1969. The editors of this central publication at that time named them among the best for the first half of the year and noted the prize of the all-union competition (Izvestia, No. 305, 30.12. 1969).
Later, writer Arkady Strugatsky noted in the works of the Lviv writer he read “psychological authenticity of images”, “masterfully described landscapes”, “a good sense of color”, and other “artistic merit” of works that are “complemented by cognitive merits”.
Professor V. K. Volkov (D.Sc. Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences) responded to the publication of the Historiad: “The book of S. A. Sokurov has no analogues in fiction, not to mention scientific. This novelty immediately captivates the reader. The author has set himself a seemingly very heavy task - to display the history of mankind in a poetic form ... He coped with the task set ... The poetic form gives the author both the right and the opportunity to create memorable images, reflect on historical and philosophical themes ... map the historical process into capacious and memorable sections, with respect to historical science ... Before the reader are the names and brief characteristics of the most important persons, as well as events, resurrecting the spirit of the time. "
The review of “Roman with Russia” provides a selection of responses to the works of S. Sokurov published on the Internet. The historian Sergei Nefyodov puts S. Sokurov's artistic prose on a par with the works of Stefan Zweig (letter from S. Nefyodov, 12/25/2006. Ekaterinburg. Archive of S. Sokurov). The scientist and publisher ( MGIMO ) Anatoly Samarin writes: “With great delight, I read and published your diptych about Fedorov . From him - delighted. It is written for centuries! ” Many recognize the author's "mind, poetry and realism, irony and sophistication" [20] .
