Fictional story
For half a century there were more than a dozen versions of the helicarrier. Each version cost about 9 billion dollars. The first version was jointly designed in the 60s by the mutant Kuznets , the billionaire Howard Stark and the scientist Reed Richards . During the first flight was destroyed by Jake Fury - brother of Nick Fury . Soon work began on the second version of Helicarrier [1] .
During the construction of the second version, the “Dogs of War” invaded, reflected by Iron Man. It was the second version of the solar helicopter that was first headed by Nick Fury. The mutiny of Agent 9 took place here. On his last flight, the helicopter went under control of Gray Gargoyle, who directed him to one of the bases of Sch.I.T., where Element X was located. On approaching the base, the helicopter was shot down [1] .
The third version of the solar helicopter was again commanded by Nick Fury, but the aircraft carrier was successively seized by the Viper , Bi-Beast , Red Skull , Buck Richlen (former agent Sh.I.T.). In the end, the helicopter was captured by cockroaches and destroyed. During the crash, most of the crew survived, and the power source was stolen by the Viper [1] .
Creation of the fourth version received the code name "Operation" Rebirth "." The creation of a new version was caused by the need to strengthen the power of Sch.I.T. and increase its influence. Most of the period of existence of the fourth version of the helicarrier fell on the leadership of Nick Fury, as well as on the leadership of Dum-Dum Dugan during his duties as director Shch.I. This version was shot down by the Guardians and self-destructed in order to avoid technology falling into enemy hands [1] .
The fifth version (sometimes referred to as the Blackhawk or the Hermes class) initially came under the command of G.W. Bridge, but soon Nick Fury returned to the post of head of the organization. This version was captured alternately by Ares , Red Skull (who based his organization SKULL on board Helicarrier), Madman and Hate-Monger (clone of Adolf Hitler ), however, Sch.I.T. under the leadership of Nick Fury, each time he won the helicopter back. The fifth version was destroyed above by people whose mind was enslaved by GI.D.A. and the cult of the Dawn of the White Light [1] .
The sixth version (another name - "Pericles") was under the command of Nick Fury until his departure from the post of director Shch.I. He was replaced by Maria Hill. A special cage for the Iron Maniac, Diamondback LMD and Titanus was created on board the helicarrier. This version was destroyed by Blade after he discovered that all the agents on board were vampires [1] .
The seventh version immediately came under the command of Mary Hill. The estimated name of the project is “Pericles II”. Soon, she was hit by agents of GI.D.R.A. with the help of EMP- weapons [1] .
The eighth version (codename “Pericles III”) was also placed under the command of Mary Hill. Later, the command was transferred to Tony Stark along with the position of the head Shch.I. as a result of the events of the Civil War. For some time this version served as a prison for such villains as Abomination , Bubble , U-Fo, Wendigo, Zzzaks and Toad . This version was knocked out by scrubbing during the “ Secret Invasion ” [1] .

Scientific Criticism
Rhett Allen , Associate Professor of Physics, University of South East Louisiana , in his article Could the SHIELD Helicarrier Fly? (“Can a helicopter fly?”) Gives calculations indicating that the carrier rotor areas of the aircraft carrier for raising it must be huge (6.5 x 10 5 m 2 for each screw) to ensure movement at least at a speed of 28 meters second (100 km per hour). For the analysis, Allen used a helicarrier version corresponding to that shown in the movie " Avengers ". Assuming that the dimensions and weight of the Helicarrier correspond to the dimensions and weight of aircraft carriers of the Nimitz type , and it is kept in the air solely due to the rotors, Allen concludes that the radius of each screw should be 17.8 meters, and their total area should be equal to 4000 m 2 (assuming that all screws are of equal size). For their operation, the power supply of the helicarrier should produce at least 2 gigawatts (for comparison, the Nimitz engine provides less than 0.2 gigawatts). In addition, Allen points out that the overload acting on Iron Man , who manually moved one of the screws of the solar carrier, could have killed him [2] .
