José Luis Cuerda Martínez ( born José Luis Cuerda Martínez ; born February 18, 1947 , Albacete ) is a Spanish director, screenwriter and producer. Twice winner of the Goya Prize for the best adapted scripts for his films.

Biography
He studied law in Madrid , but after three years he dropped out of school and worked as a radio engineer. In 1969, he went to work on Spanish television and filmed documentary stories for the news service. In 1985-1987 he worked as an assistant at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Salamanca . He made several short films. The first feature film was released in 1982. Cuerda has repeatedly acted as a producer of films by Alejandro Amenabar .
