Feature
Following the albums Flying Teapot (1973) and Angel's Egg (1973), You became the third part of the Radio Gnome Trilogy trilogy, which formed the core of Gong mythology.
Structurally, the album consists of lengthy cosmic instrumental compositions (such as Master Builder, A Sprinkling of Clouds and Isle of Everywhere), which are interrupted by short narrative fragments.
The role of guitarist Steve Hilledge in the group became quite noticeable to the extent that he overshadowed the founder of the group, David Allen , for whom this album was the last in the group, until his quasi-return many years later. The album opens with three short compositions, among which the fun and very advanced jazz composition “Perfect Mystery” stands out. The long epic structures are written in the style of strong, jazz-saturated progressive rock, the best of which is the instrumental “Isle of Everywhere” [1] .
Guitarist Steve Hilage remake "Master Builder" on his 1978 album Green , entitled "The Glorious Om Riff." Japanese psycho-rock band Acid Mothers Temple has also repeatedly performed Master Builder covers called Om Riff, and has also released two albums entirely consisting of versions of this composition - IAO Chant from the Cosmic Inferno (2005) and IAO Chant from the Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out (2012).
