Ordynsky, Boris Ivanovich

Born in the family of a Tula nobleman, military doctor Ivan Mikhailovich Ordynsky.

He studied at the Yaroslavl and Tula gymnasiums; at the end of the historical and philological department of the philosophical faculty of Moscow University in 1845 he was appointed teacher of Greek at the Yaroslavl gymnasium. Not having the opportunity to continue his studies in Yaroslavl in his specialty, B.I. He began to bother about university service and about acquiring a degree; with the assistance of M.P. Pogodin , he managed to get a job, in December 1853, at Kazan University as an adjunct in Latin literature; soon for a dissertation: “On the poetry of Aristotle, ” Ordynsky was awarded a master's degree ; in March 1857, he was entrusted with lecturing on Greek literature.

At the end of 1860, B. I. Ordynsky left the service at Kazan University, but in the spring of 1861 he was elected as an extraordinary professor by the university council to the department of Roman literature. I received an invitation to the same department from Kharkov University , but died on May 30, 1861.

A journalistic polemic was caused by his translation of the Iliad (songs I – XII) ^[1] , made by prose, a common language ^[2] .
