Pablo Antonio José de Olavide y Jáuregui ( Spanish: Pablo Antonio José de Olavide y Jáuregui ; January 25, 1725 , Lima , Peruvian Kingdom - February 25, 1803 , Baeza , Spain ) - Spanish politician, lawyer and writer. The name Pablo de Olavide is founded in 1997 by the Public University of Seville .

Born into a wealthy and influential Creole family , he studied at the University of San Marcos and at the University of Complutense . He received a doctorate in canon law in 1740 and jurisprudence in 1742. An adherent of the ideas of French encyclopedia, kept in Madrid a salon in which prominent representatives of the Spanish Enlightenment gathered. He corresponded with Voltaire , Diderot and Russo . He was arrested by the Inquisition , was in exile in France, where he was also arrested for counter-revolutionary activities during the Jacobin dictatorship . Rejecting his former convictions, he received forgiveness from the church and returned to Spain.
