A constitutional referendum in Togo was held on January 27, 1992 . The proposed constitutional amendments were supposed to return multi-party democracy to the country. They were approved by 99.17% of the vote, with a turnout of 74.2%. [one]
As a result of the approval of the multi-party system by referendum in 1993, Togo held the first alternative presidential election in which 3 candidates participated, despite the fact that the main opposition candidates boycotted them.
