Biography
Egor Pavlovich Zhilin was born on July 20, 1921 in the village of Puzachi (now the Manturovsky district of the Kursk region ). After graduating from six classes of the school and tractor driver courses, he worked in a machine and tractor station . In 1940, Zhilin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By March 1944, the guard, Second Lieutenant Yegor Zhilin, commanded a tank platoon of the 56th separate tank regiment of the 6th Guards Mechanized Corps of the 4th Panzer Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Khmelnitsky and Ivano-Frankivsk regions of the Ukrainian SSR [1] .
On March 26 - 31, 1944, in the battles near Kamenetz-Podolsky, Zhilin personally destroyed dozens of enemy soldiers and officers, as well as 23 vehicles. On April 24-28, 1944, in the area of the village of St. Jozef of the Kolomyia District, the platoon of Zilina destroyed 7 enemy tanks, 2 armored vehicles, near a company of German soldiers and officers. On July 30, 1944, Junior Lieutenant Yegor Zhilin died in battle. He was buried in the city of Sambir, Lviv region of Ukraine [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 2, 1944, the guard, the second lieutenant Yegor Zhilin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the orders of Lenin and World War 1 degree [1] .
In honor of Zhilin, a monument was erected in Sambir [2] , and in Soviet times one of the city streets was also called [1] .
