Biography
Alexey Zhizhkun was born March 23, 1923 in the village of Gorodnya (now a city in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine ). After graduating from junior high school he worked as a driver. In 1941, Zhizhkun was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the infantry school, in 1944 - courses "Shot". Since May 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By August 1944, Lieutenant Alexei Zhizhkun commanded a machine-gun company of the 83rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 27th Guards Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the crossing of the Vistula [1] .
On August 2, 1944, Zizkun as part of a group crossed the Vistula River in the Magnushev area and took part in the seizure of a bridgehead on its western shore. In battle, he destroyed the calculation of the German guns, contributing to the successful crossing of the entire battalion. In one of the battles in January 1945, Zizkun was seriously wounded, from whom he died on January 29, 1945. He was buried in Poznan [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the “courage and heroism shown when crossing the Vistula and holding the bridgehead on its western shore” of the guard, Lieutenant Alexey Zhizhkun was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union .
