Short Biography

He studied at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Pajajaran University ( Bandung ). In 1974-1975, he studied at the University of Iowa ( USA ) under the international program of creative writing. In 1974 he participated in the International Poetry Festival in Rotterdam . He published his poems in the magazines Chorison , Budaya Jaya, and the newspapers Sinar Harapan and Brita Bouana. Member of the international poetry festival in Rotterdam (1975).

Creativity

The poet's creative credo is the liberation of the word from meaning, the independence of its sound structure and graphic image. [1] Focuses on the principles of the organization of mantra spells and partly on the Western "specific poetry" (collections of "O", 1973; "Amok", 1977).

He gained wide fame thanks to public speaking with the reading of his poems. He received the nickname of "bottle poet", because at an early stage of his work he read poetry with a bottle of beer in his hands. [2]

The verses of 1966-1979 are collected in the anthology O Amok Ax (1981). [3] In 2000 he published a storybook Rain // Draw // Chicken (each word is the name of the story). [4] His poem “Land of Tears”, which became the banner of the struggle against the Suharto regime, essentially made the “revolution of 1998” - it along with the poem “I am ashamed that I am Indonesian” by Taufik Ismail and Rendra’s old poetry, including “Blues for Bonnie, ”sounded at rallies, marches, demonstrations [5] . Has the unofficial title of “King of Indonesian poets” [6]
