House of Scientists (Obninsk)

The predecessor of the House of Scientists - the House of Political Education - was inaugurated on September 22, 1979. Although on a voluntary basis, the House of Scientists existed in the city before in the club of the Physics and Energy Institute (IPPE). The House of Political Education was created in the city in order to increase the level of political education of citizens in the system of political studies. The main inspirer was the first secretary of the Obninsk city ​​committee of the CPSU at that time Ivan Vasilievich Novikov , who had been the head of the city committee for 10 years. The design of the building was developed by the famous architect V.I. Davtyan . The best teams were sent to the construction of the facility, I.V. Novikov personally supervised the construction. In the building, the University of Marxism-Leninism was opened as part of the faculties - philosophical, political economy, psychology, methodology, aesthetics, journalism. The building was put on the balance of the IPPE.

Since 1979, the House of Scientists has been housed in the House of Political Education.

In 1991, the House of Political Education was transformed into the House of Science. Subsequently, Mayor Mikhail Shubin changed the name of the House of Science to the House of Scientists.

Leningrad architects took part in the construction of the House of Scientists (originally the House of Political and Scientific-Technical Propaganda), and architects from Obninsk were involved in the interiors of the building. The facade of the building is decorated with pylons , which is typical for the buildings of the regional party committees and other "religious" buildings of that time. The interior uses pink marble . The foyer of the second floor is a two-room hall with three massive bronze chandeliers under the ceiling. A bust of Kurchatov is installed in the lobby of the second floor, and a bust of Lenin in the lobby of the first floor. The facade of the building was originally decorated with a bronze high relief with images of Marx , Engels and Lenin, which in the 1990s was dismantled for ideological reasons. In the spring of 2010, at the arrival of President Dmitry Medvedev , the inscription “House of Scientists” was installed above the entrance ^[8] .

July 30, 1982 for the design and construction of the House of political, scientific and technical propaganda, a team of architects and builders of 12 people was awarded the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR ^[9] .

On November 1, 2013, near the right front corner of the House of Scientists, a city ​​sculpture of the Scientist Cat was installed.

The concert hall of the House of Scientists for 615 seats is equipped with modern sound and lighting equipment, which allows you to hold high-level philharmonic evenings.

There is a lecture hall with 220 seats, located amphitheater for lectures, seminars, symposia. For business meetings, you can use the modern conference room.

There are two banquet halls for weddings, banquets, gala evenings, spectator services during concert events.
