Biography
Born on July 29, 1917 in the village of Andreevo-Zorino of the Russian Empire, now Berezansky district of the Nikolaev region of Ukraine, in a peasant family. Ukrainian . He graduated from 8 classes of high school. In 1935 he graduated from the school of FZU at the Black Sea Shipbuilding Plant [1] . He worked as a welder and shipbuilder at the Nikolaev plant. Learned to fly in the flying club named after Levanevsky.
In the Red Army since 1938. In 1940 he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School . Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. He fought on the Kalinin , Northwest and Bryansk fronts. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942.
Lieutenant Andrei Chernobay, deputy squadron commander of the 875th fighter aviation regiment, completed 90 sorties by January 1943. In 40 air battles he personally shot down 11 and in a group of 27 enemy aircraft. For these exploits, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
By August 1943, Captain A.P. Chernobay completed over 100 sorties, conducted more than 40 air battles, personally shot down 16 and in a group of 28 aircraft [2] . This month he was recalled from the front and sent to flight test work.
After the war, the brave fighter pilot continued to serve in the USSR Air Force. Since 1947, Major Chernobay A.P. is in stock. Until 1956 he continued to engage in aircraft testing.
He lived in the city of Leningrad, where he died on March 21, 1988 .
Rewards
- By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1943, for the exemplary performance of command assignments and for the courage and heroism shown in battles with Nazi invaders, Lieutenant Chernobay Andrei Petrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 815) .
- He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and medals.
