Content

Geography

The most western region of the region. Located in the steppe zone within the Oka-Don Plain in the Karay river basin, a tributary of the Khopra . The richness of the area are highly productive chernozem soil.

The territory of the district is 1.3 thousand km².

The length of public roads with hard surface is 147.9 km.

History

The district was formed on July 23, 1928 as part of the Balashov District of the Lower Volga Territory . It consisted of the territory of the former Romanov parish of the Balashov district of the Saratov province .

Since 1934, the district is part of the Saratov region , since 1936 - in the Saratov region .

From January 6, 1954 to November 19, 1957, the district was part of the Balashov region .

In 1963 - 1965 , the district was abolished [3] .

On January 1, 2005, the Romanovsky Municipal District was formed as a municipal entity [4] .

In 2006, the Osinovka municipal unit was renamed the Bobylevo municipal unit [16] .

In 2013, the Krasnolimansk and Romanov municipalities were transformed by merging them into the Romanov municipality with the status of an urban settlement with the administrative center in the workers' settlement Romanovka [17] .

Economy

The area is agricultural , grain, sunflower , sugar beet, meat, milk are produced. Personal farms produce onions and potatoes .

There are 4 industrial enterprises in the region, the biggest is a bread-producing plant, the other three are a dairy plant, and an asphalt plant.

Attractions

The soft contours of the relief, the puffy fields and the meadow grasses of the Karay river valley create peculiar attractive landscapes. Also the picturesqueness of Romanovka and the area is given by tape forests in the valleys of Karaya and Khopra.

The oldest village is Bolshoy Karay (founded in 1612). In the local school museum of local lore. Also among the attractions can be noted reserve "Poymennaya Oakwood".
