History
Creation and Tour (2010—2011)
In 2010 , it was announced that the European tour “John Garcia plays Kyuss” (“John Garcia plays Kyuss”) will begin with a concert at the Roadburn Festival . The program included almost only Kyuss songs. In June 2010, Nick Oliveri and Brent Björk played with Garcia “Green Machine” and “Gardenia” when “John Garcia plays Kyuss” were headlining at Hellfest in France. [2] Thus, playing with Garcia at subsequent concerts, the band represented ¾ of the Kyuss lineup from the Blues for the Red Sun album.
In November 2010 , Garcia, Björk and Oliveri announced a European tour called “Kyuss Lives!” Featuring guitarist Bruno Fiveri. Clarifying the new name of the group, Garcia said that “it will never be Kyuss without Josh Homme,” and that “I hope he and I will come together in the future and write something.”
In May, the band toured in Australia [3] and in New Zealand. [4] After the European tour in 2011 , Kyuss Lives! announced a North and South American tour, which took place in late summer and early autumn. The group planned to release an album in the summer of 2012 . [5]
After the lawsuit (2012 — present)
In March 2012, Josh Homme and Scott Reader filed a federal lawsuit against John Garcia and Brent Björk, claiming “trademark infringement and consumer fraud” regarding the use of the Kyuss name. A month later, Nick Oliveri left the band and was replaced by Billy Cordell. In August, the court upheld Homme’s lawsuit, ruling that Garcia and Björk could not make audio recordings under the name Kyuss Lives !, and must change the name; however, they still have the right to use Kyuss Lives! as a logo for presentations and advertising, provided that the words “Kyuss” and “Lives” are printed in the same font size. The group has been renamed. [6]
In November 2012, Nick Oliveri announced that he would return to Kyuss Lives !. [7] However, the band played their last gigs under this name at Soundwave Festivals in 2013 with Mike Dean on bass. Oliveri did not take an active part in the life of the group, and in August of the same year Garcia announced that “Vista Chino is a trio consisting of [himself], Brent [Bjork, drummer] and Bruno [Fiveri, guitarist]. It'll be this way forever".
In May 2013, it was announced that Vista Chino had signed with Napalm Records . [8] On the same day, the song “Dargona Dragona” was published on the band’s page on SoundCloud . The debut album Peace was released on September 3, 2013. [9] [10]
In October 2014, Nick Oliveri claimed that Vista Chino had broken up. Garcia and Björk devoted this time to a solo career, the first to release their debut solo album. [11] On December 31, the group recalled itself with a photograph of Garcia and Bjork on social networks and announced a new album. [12]
