Biography
Anatoly Zharikov was born on December 25, 1920 in the village of Ferezevo (now - the Dmitrovsky district of the Oryol region ). He received an incomplete secondary education, after which he worked as a turner at the Kharkov Electromechanical Plant . In June 1941, Zharikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . From the same month - on the fronts of World War II. August 4, 1941 was wounded. By September 1943, Red Army soldier Anatoly Zharikov was a scout for the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 151st Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division of the 15th Infantry Corps of the 13th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 24, 1943, Zharikov sailed across the Dnieper on a log and carried out reconnaissance of enemy positions and firing points on its western shore, and then chose the most suitable places for crossing the river with advanced groups. Having found the boat, Zharikov crossed back and delivered important information to the regiment command. Zharikov’s actions contributed to the successful forcing of the entire regiment with the least losses [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 16, 1943, for “successfully crossing the Dnieper River north of Kiev , firmly securing the bridgehead on the western bank of the Dnieper River and showing courage and heroism”, Red Army soldier Anatoly Zharikov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and Gold Star medal number 2056 [1] .
In 1945, Zharikov graduated from the Saratov Tank School . In 1946, with the rank of senior lieutenant, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in the village of Rakitnoye , then in the village of Vatutino, Novovodolazhsky district, Kharkov region . He died on August 2, 1979, and was buried in the village of Novaya Vodolaga [1] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [1] .
