History
Roman Dorota Maslovskaya wrote while preparing for the exam for the matriculation certificate. When writing the novel, Dorota Maslovskaya collaborated with the Polish literary critic Pavel Dunin-Vonsovich. The text of the novel was ready on June 13, 2002. The book was published in 2002 by the publishing house Lampa i Iskra Boża . The novel is dedicated to the representative of the youth subculture, so the book was announced as “the first book of Polish dreshestvo [2] ”. The book received a positive review of Polish writers Jerzy Pilch and Marcin Svednitsky . By the end of 2002, about 40 thousand copies of the book were sold.
The book has been translated into English (White and Red), Hungarian (Lengyel-ruszki háború a fehér-piros lobogó alatt), Spanish (Blanco nieve, rojo Rusia), Italian (Prendi tutto), German (Schneeweiß und Russenrot ), Dutch (Sneeuwwit en Russisch Rood), Russian (Polish-Russian war under the white-red flag), Slovak (Sneh a krv), French (Polococtail Party), Czech (Červená a bílá).
In 2002, the novel received the literary prize “Politics Passport” for “an original look at Polish reality and the use of vulgar language ” [3] and was nominated for the literary prize “ Nika ”.
In 2009, based on the plot of the book, the Polish director Xavier Zhulawski made the feature film “Polish-Russian War”.
Story
In the novel, we are talking about drug addict Andrzej named Strong and his adventures with women. The events of the story unfold against the backdrop of widespread anti-Russian phobias in Poland. The strong is under the constant influence of drugs and it seems to him that the Polish-Russian war should soon begin. This feeling causes Strong to have various thoughts that translate into ridiculous situations with women.
