Biography
Vladimir Zhayvoron was born on June 3, 1923 in the village of Bronitskaya Guta (now Novograd-Volynsky district of the Zhytomyr region of the Ukrainian SSR ). He graduated from high school. In 1940, Zhayvoron was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the Kiev Infantry School. Since December 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the South-Western and 2nd Ukrainian fronts, was wounded. By December 1944, Captain Vladimir Zhayvoron commanded the battery of the 103rd mortar regiment of the 7th artillery division of the breakthrough of the Reserve of the Supreme High Command. Distinguished himself during the liberation of Hungary [1] .
On the night of December 4-5, 1944, Zhayvoron was sent to the opposite bank of the Danube to adjust mortar fire. The enemy was driving along the boat on which Zhayvoron and radio operators Shapovalov and Fedorov were crossing, a massive fire. Near the opposite shore, the boat was destroyed by a shell rupture. Fedorov died, and Shapovalov was seriously wounded and began to sink. Zhayvoron managed to catch him and swim with him to the coast occupied by Soviet troops. Without rest, as soon as the raft was made, he again sailed across the river. In outbreaks, Zhayvoron detected enemy weapons and transmitted their coordinates. When the enemy’s shell split the raft, the mortally wounded Zhayvoron drowned [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the "courage and bravery shown during the crossing of the Danube" of the guard, Captain Vladimir Zhayvoron was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War 2 degree, Red Star [1] .
