Asian Handball Federation

Asian Handball Federation ( eng. Asian Handball Federation , abbr. АHF , in the Russian transliteration АГФ ) is the structure governing Asian handball . It unites 38 national federations. Represents the International Handball Federation (IHF) in Asia . The headquarters is located in Kuwait's capital , Kuwait . The president of the AGF is Sheikh Ahmed al-Fahad al-Sabah ( Kuwait ).

History

The proposal to create a handball development organization on the Asian continent came from Sheikh Fahd al-Ahmed al-Sabah, who led the Kuwaiti sports delegation at the 7th Asian Games held in 1974 in Tehran ( Iran ). In 1976 , a meeting of representatives of national federations of Asian countries was held in Kuwait , at which the creation of the Asian Handball Federation (AGF) was announced. The new organization included 14 national associations that were members of the International Handball Federation . As of 2013, it unites 38 national federations.

In 1977, in Kuwait, the AGF held its first Asian handball championship among men's teams . The first similar women's tournament was held in 1987 in Jordan .

In 1982, men's handball was first included in the Asian Games . In 1990 , women's national teams debuted at the Asian Games.

Since 1988 , Asian championships have been held among men's, and since 1990 - among women's youth national teams. Since 2005, Asian championships have been played among boys and girls.

Since 2004, Asian beach handball championships for men have been held.

Official Competitions

As part of its activities, the Asian Handball Federation is responsible for the following tournaments:

  • Handball tournaments as part of the Asian Games ;
  • Asian Championships among national teams - once every two years for even years;
  • Asian Championships among youth national teams - once every two years in even (youth) and odd (girls) years;
  • Asian Championships among junior national teams - once every two years for odd years (age of participants is up to 18 years);
  • Club Championship of Asia - annually;
  • Asian Beach Handball Championships among men's national teams - once every 4 years for odd pre-Olympic years;
