Overview
In 2014, 96 athletes from 15 countries of North America , Africa , Asia and Oceania took part in the tournament. Among the athletes were 29 men and 21 women. There were also seven doubles and fifteen dance teams.
None of the 2013 gold medalists took part in the tournament due to preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics . Of the 2013 medalists, only one athlete took part - the bronze medalist in the women's singles Kanako Murakami from Japan . Men's bronze medalist Yan Han from China was originally included in the application, but was later replaced.
Venue
The tournament was held at the Taipei Arena indoor sports complex. It was built at the end of August 2005 and is located at the intersection of Dunhua North Highway and 4 sections of Nanjing East Highway in Zhongshan County. It is also the first international arena in Taipei to meet international competition standards with a capacity of 15,000 spectators. It is also designed for concerts, art performances, exhibitions, gatherings, etc.
Qualification
Athletes could participate in the tournament if they represent an ISU member country not from Europe and as of July 1, 2013 have reached the age of 15 years. The corresponding tournament for athletes from Europe was the European Figure Skating Championship 2014 . National associations selected their participants according to their own criteria, but the ISU ordered that the athletes of their choice have a minimum technical element score (TES) in an international tournament before the Four Continents Championship.
Unlike the European Championship, all national associations in the championship of four continents are allowed to have three participants in each discipline, regardless of what place their athletes took in last year's tournament.
