Biography
Vasily Efimov was born on August 25, 1919 in the village of Krasny Yar (now - Ussuriysk urban district of Primorsky Krai ). He received an incomplete secondary education, after which he worked as a driver at a state farm . In 1939 - 1940 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1942, Efimov was again drafted into the army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. By October 1943, the junior sergeant Vasily Yefimov of the Guard was the driver of the BM-13 combat installation of the 315th Guards Mortar Regiment of the 37th Army of the Steppe Front. Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper [1] .
During the fighting on the bridgehead on the west bank of the Dnieper near the village of Mishurin Rog, Verkhnedneprovsky district, Dnipropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR September 30 - October 19, 1943 Efimov 14 times took out his guns to direct fire, knocking out two tanks, one assault gun and two cars. During the period of hostilities from July 5 to October 20, 1943, Efimov made 107 volleys, destroying 16 tanks and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944, for the “courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper”, the junior sergeant Vasily Yefimov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2710 [1] .
After the war ended, Efimov was demobilized. He lived in the city of Ussuriysk, Primorsky Krai , worked as a driver for the Dalolovo administration. He died tragically in a car accident on July 25, 1954 . Initially, he was buried in the cemetery of the village of the sugar factory, in 1965 he was reburied in the city cemetery of Ussuriysk [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Efimov, a street was named in the village of Utyosnoe of the Ussuriysk urban district [1] .
The name of the warrior-driver, Hero of the Soviet Union, V. Efimov, is immortalized on the wall in memory of the Ussuriysk Higher Military Automotive Command School .
