Biography
Mikhail Efanov was born on November 2 (in a new style - 15 ) on November 1910 in the village of Cherdaty (now Zyryansky district of the Tomsk region ). After graduating from four classes in a rural school, he worked for self-employed. In 1932 - 1934 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. After demobilization, he returned to his homeland, worked as the head of the bakery of the timber industry enterprise. June 22, 1941 Efanov was re-drafted into the army. Since January 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the North-West , Voronezh , Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. By the autumn of 1943, Red Army soldier Mikhail Efanov was the pontoon of the 40th separate motorized pontoon-bridge battalion of the 7th Guards Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [2] .
On September 26, 1943, during the crossing across the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Borodaevka of the Verkhnedneprovsky district of the Dnepropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR, Efanov replaced the wounded squad leader and headed the assembly of the ferries. Only in the first few flights, Efanov’s branch transported a rifle battalion and 6 anti-tank guns to the western bank of the Dnieper. The ferry operated for several days. In total, 500 Soviet fighters and commanders with all arms were transported. When the engine stalled on the lead boat on October 1, 1943, Efanov and his men were able to deliver the tank and infantry in a pontoon to the landing site using oars [2] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943 for “courage and heroism shown during crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank,” Red Army soldier Mikhail Efanov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 1508 [2] .
In December 1945, the rank of senior sergeant Efanov was demobilized. He lived in the Zyryansky district, worked as an instructor in the Zyryansky district committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks, as the director of a self-supporting economy, and as the head of a motor transport construction site. Since 1960, Efanov lived in Novosibirsk . He died on October 14, 1962, was buried at the Zaeltsovsky cemetery in Novosibirsk [2] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [2] .
