Calimero

Calimero ( Jap. カ リ メ ро Carimero ) is an anime series co-produced by the Japanese-Italian production of the black chicken Calimero, which previously appeared in the Italian television show Carosello , produced in 1963, and therefore was known to a certain extent by the Italian audience when the new series was released. Organizzazione Pago worked on the creation of the characters, and the chicken was also used in the Italian advertisement of Miralanza AVA soap, which shows that the chicken is not really black, but very dirty, and turns white again after bathing with soap [2] .

The plot revolves around a charming but unlucky anthropomorphic duckling Calimero, who is the only one in his family who was born with black down, and not yellow, like the rest. Calimero always wears an egg shell on his head. In almost all episodes, Calimero and his friends try to solve strange phenomena and end up in funny or unpleasant situations.

Cultural Influence

  • One of the Welsh singles of the rock band Super Furry Animals is named Calimero [4] .
  • French singer Brigitte Fontaine, together with the musical group Stereolab, created the single Calimero [5] .
  • In the 1970s and 1980s , a steady expression began to spread among the Israeli army military police - Kalimero, since the military headgear was white and looked like an egg [6] [7] .
  • In the Netherlands and Belgium, there is a term: “Calimero Complex”, which describes a person who is confident that the world is against him, only because he is weaker or has lost something. The prototype for this was the duckling’s favorite phrase “They’re big, I'm small, it’s not fair or not!”, In Slovenia in a similar case they use the expression “he behaves like Calimero” or “don’t be like Calimero” [8] .
