Biography
Born in Rochford ( Essex ) [1] , by the time of the census of the population in 1871, he was already a schoolboy, attending school in Brighton ( Sussex ) [3] .
In 1882 he entered military service as a cavalryman [4] .
He commanded group “B” of the British Expeditionary Corps [4] during the invasion of German East Africa , in early November 1914, was defeated by the Germans in the battle of Tanga [5] . This battle is also known as the “battle of the bees”, since several times during the battle the bees attacked the troops of both sides [6] . Aitken was too self-confident and he did not conduct intelligence in the Tangli area. The British did not succeed in defeating the German troops under the command of the Letts-Forbeck [5] , which surrendered to them only after the end of the First World War .
Aitken's troops were crushed and retreated [5] . The publication of details in the UK has been delayed.
