Stephanie Young Hwang , also Hwan Mi Young Korea is one of the main vocalists of the girls' Generation girl group , which debuted under the direction of SM Entertainment in 2007. In 2016 she made her debut as a solo artist with the I Just Wanna Dance mini-album .

Biography
Stephanie Young Hwang was born August 1, 1989 in San Francisco , California . [1] Her family consists of a father, an older brother and an older sister. [2] Mother died when Tiffany was at a young age. [3] Hwang grew up in Diamond Bar and was inspired by Korean singer BoA . [4] At the age of 15, at the insistence of her brother, she went to a singing contest. There, SM Entertainment agents noticed her and took her to the agency as trainees. Tiffany moved to Korea three weeks later. [5] She attended a Korean school for foreigners (Korea Kent Foreign School). [6]
Career
2007–12: Girls 'Generation and Girls' Generation Debut - TTS
Tiffany signed with SM Entertainment in 2004, and had an internship of almost four years. On August 5, 2007, she made her debut as part of the new female group Girls' Generation . Hwang decided to perform under the stage name Tiffany, as her mother wanted to call her that at birth. [7] Tiffany's early work for the most part contained notes for various projects and OSTs for serials. [8] She also became a host for television projects. [9] In early 2008, Tiffany discovered nodules on her vocal cords, and she needed medical attention. Symptoms began to intensify in 2009 and 2010, as a result of which Hwang had to take a break in activity. [10] She later admitted that her voice had become more "hoarse" and "more mature." [eleven]
In December 2011, Tiffany made her debut as a musical actress in the Korean adaptation of the production of Glory. [12] In April 2012, the first official Girls 'Generation - Girls' Generation - TTS sub-unit was formed, which in addition to Tiffany included Taeyeon and Seohyun . 2013−16: I Just Wanna Dance
In November 2013, Tiffany became a member of the SBS King of Korea Fashion show, where celebrities work with eminent Korean designers and participate in fashion competitions with missions. Designer Zhi Il Geun became her partner, and they were able to take third place. [15]
In the summer of 2015, Hwang began work on a solo album, while having the idea of "moving to the next chapter of [her] musical career." She has been involved in writing music since 2014, calling it “nervous to invest in [her] music written by herself”. Tiffany also called Taeyeon the "big part" that helped her in the process of preparing the album. [sixteen]
The debut mini-album I Just Wanna Dance was released in May 2016; Tiffany became the second member of Girls' Generation, debuting with a solo album. Critics greeted her album with mixed but favorable reviews. [17] I Just Wanna Dance had a more western sound than the typical K-pop , but managed to debut in third place in the world and Korean album charts. [18] Sales totaled 61,409 copies, and Billboard put the release on the list of Korean best albums of the year. [19] [20] The single of the same name also achieved success on the digital charts. [21] The subsequent single, “Heartbreak Hotel,” recorded with the participation of Simon Dominic, was released via SM Station's digital platform. In October 2016, Hwang also participated in the recording of the song “Don't Speak” from the Identity Far East Movement album. [24]
2017 − present: Leaving SM Entertainment, solo singles and Lips on Lips
On October 9, 2017, it became known that Tiffany, Suyun and Seohyun did not renew their contracts with SM Entertainment and officially left the agency. Contrary to many rumors, the company said Girls' Generation would not be disbanded; Hwang's future as a member of the group is still under discussion. [25] [26]
On March 14, 2018, Tiffany released the digital single “Remember Me”, which is the eponymous cover of the soundtrack for the animated film “ The Secret of Coco ”, under the new stage name - Tiffany Young. [27] [28] On June 13, it became known that Hwang signed a contract with the Paradigm Talent Agency, which promotes many American celebrities, including Ed Sheeran , Coldplay and others. Tiffany released her new single, “ Magnetic Moon ”, on August 2, coinciding with her Open Hearts Eve concert in Seoul the next day, [43] as well as another concert in Bangkok on August 17. [44] She will also embark on the Magnetic Moon Tour, which covers eighteen North American cities from October to November 2019. [45]
Personal life
April 4, 2014 it became known that Tiffany is in a relationship with Nikkun from 2PM . [46] On May 28, 2015, it was announced that the couple broke up after a year of relationship, however, according to unofficial data, they met for about five years. [47]
Imperial Flag Scandal
In August 2016, Tiffany performed with Girls' Generation and sololy as part of the SMTown Live tour in Tokyo , and using social media accounts posted several photos to mark her location using the flag of Japan and the flag of the Rising Sun. Despite the fact that Hwang had no ill intentions, Korean society condemned her because the pictures were published on August 15, the day of the liberation of Korea , thereby plowing old wounds after everything that the country suffered from the Japanese occupation. [48] This event forced her to leave the show “Onni - Guaranteed Success”. [49] Tiffany wrote an apology twice to explain to the fans:
[...] I posted the Flag of the Rising Sun on social networks on Liberation Day. This is something I should never have done, given the significance of this day. I did not have enough knowledge of history to the extent that I did not know what this flag symbolizes, and I was indifferent to the torment of the historical past. I very much apologize to those who were hurt by my ignorance and indifference. And I also apologize to those who trusted and supported me [...] A recent incident has allowed me to understand what really needs to be known. From now on, I will focus on studying such things more than singing and dancing. [50]
After the incident, many spoke out in defense of Hwan, while others asked about misogyny in Korean society, arguing that this act could be “uninviting” towards girls, and the man was forgiven for such an offense and did not become reproach. [51] [52] [53]
