Biography

Nikolai Mikhailovich Pochivalin was born on July 14, 1926 in the village of Bolshoi Kuliki of the Morshansky district of the Tambov province (now in the Morshansky district of the Tambov region ) in a working-class family. Russian Education is incomplete secondary. Before the start of World War II, he lived in the village of Osoviny, Mayak-Salynsky district, Crimean ASSR .

N. M. Pochivalin was called up to the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army on April 18, 1944 after the liberation of the Kerch Peninsula by the troops of the Separate Primorye Army . He was sent to the 83rd Separate Rifle Brigade of the Marine Corps , on the basis of which he underwent military training, after which he was enlisted as a gunner in the 144th Separate Battalion of the Marine Corps . In battles with the Nazi invaders and their Romanian allies, the Red Armyman N.M. Pochivalin from August 1944 on the 3rd Ukrainian Front . During the Iasi-Chisinau operation, as part of the Special Group of the 46th Army, Nikolai Mikhailovich participated in the operation to force the Dniester estuary , battles for the bridgehead north of Akkerman [1] and the liberation of the city of Akkerman. During the further offensive, the 83rd Infantry Brigade of the Marine Corps, acting under the command of the 57th Army and directly commander of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, liberated the Kiliysky District of Odessa Region and the territory of the Romanian county of Tulcea . The Red Army soldier Pochivalin participated in the capture of the ports of Kilia and Sulin in the Danube Delta and the liberation of the city of Constanta . In September 1944, the troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, in cooperation with the Bulgarian partisans, carried out the Bulgarian operation . Nikolai Mikhailovich as part of his unit freed Varna and Burgas .

After the withdrawal of Romania and Bulgaria from the war, the 83rd Separate Rifle Brigade of the Marine Corps was relocated to Hungary , where, in close cooperation with the Danube Flotilla and the 46th Army, it carried out combat missions during the Budapest operation . N. M. Pochivalin took part in the Gerjensky landing , the liberation of the city of Paks , and the battles for Budapest . Since February 21, 1945, a team of the 46th Army fought on the 2nd Ukrainian Front . The Red Armyman N. M. Pochivalin distinguished himself during the Vienna offensive operation during the Esztergom landing .

On the night of March 19 to 20, 1945, the armored boats of the Danube naval flotilla, having penetrated the Danube into enemy territory by 18 kilometers, carried out tactical assault landing at the village of Tat in the rear of a large group of German and Hungarian troops defending the city of Esztergom . A little more than three days, 536 paratroopers fought with superior enemy forces in the face of an acute shortage of ammunition and food. During the battle, the Red Army soldier N.M. Pochivalin, with his anti-tank rifle, took up a firing position in the central defense sector in front of the infantry platoon of the Marines and, through skillful actions, repelled 18 attacks of the German infantry and tanks. The soldier Pochivalin knocked out two of the three tanks destroyed by the platoon and destroyed 9 enemy soldiers. With his heroic actions, Pochivalin raised the morale of a platoon and inspired him to fulfill his combat mission. On March 27, 1945, the commander of the 144th Separate Marine Battalion, Major V. P. Bystrov [2] , among other soldiers who distinguished themselves during the operation, introduced N. M. Pochivalin to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union. The decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was signed on May 15, 1946.

In the final phase of the Vienna operation, the Red Armyman N. M. Pochivalin participated in the liberation of the city of Komar . In early April 1945, the 83rd Separate Rifle Brigade of the Marine Corps was assigned to the 6th Guards Tank Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front and took part in the Bratislava-Brnovsk offensive operation . Nikolai Mikhailovich participated in the battles for Brno , liberated the city of Jaromerice . He completed the battle path on May 9 in liberated Prague .

After the end of World War II, N. M. Pochivalin received a military education and continued to serve in the Soviet Army until 1953. In reserve, Nikolai Mikhailovich quit as a lieutenant. He lived in the village of Chistopol in the Leninsky district of the Crimean region . He worked at the Rodina state farm. April 10, 1987 Nikolai Mikhailovich died. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Chistopolie, Leninsky district of the Republic of Crimea.
