Biography
Leonid Zakhodnik was born on April 3, 1912 in the Vitebsk province of the Russian Empire .
He studied at the Latvian Conservatory under P. Sachs (1929-1931) and in Milan (Italy, 1934-1936). He was a soloist of the Latvian National Opera (Opera and Ballet Theater of the Latvian SSR, 1936–1941 and 1944–1947), the State Art Ensemble of the Latvian SSR (1942–1944), the Latvian State Philharmonic Society (1947–1962), and a vocal teacher (1963–1985).
Best known for the role of Faust in the opera of the same name by Charles Gounod (1936), the roles of Alfred in La Traviata (1936) and the Duke in Rigoletto (1937) by Giuseppe Verdi , as well as Lensky in the opera of Pyotr Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin (1940) [1] .
