Biography
Evgeny Erofeev was born on August 18, 1924 in Tver . In the same year, he moved with his family to Moscow , where he graduated from an incomplete secondary school and one course at the Moscow Mechanical College. In 1942, Erofeev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1943, he graduated from the Krasnokholmsky Military Infantry School. Since May of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Voronezh , Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. Participated in the Battle of Kursk . By September 1943, the Second Lieutenant Evgeny Erofeev commanded a platoon of the 225th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 78th Guards Rifle Division of the 7th Guards Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On the night of September 24–25, 1943, Yerofeyev with his platoon crossed the Dnieper in the area of the village of Domotkan, Verkhnedneprovsky District, Dnepropetrovsk Region, Ukrainian SSR, and seized a bridgehead on its western shore. The enemy launched nine counterattacks against him, but all of them were successfully repelled. Erofeev was seriously wounded, but continued to fire until reinforcements arrived [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for the “courage and heroism shown when crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank” of the guard, junior lieutenant Yevgeny Erofeev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal under the number 2634 [1] .
In 1945 he graduated from advanced training courses for officers. In 1947, with the rank of lieutenant Erofeev, he was sacked. He lived and worked in Moscow . He died on September 28, 1968, was buried at the Kuzminskoye cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star [1] .
In honor of Erofeev named street in Tver [1] .
